Color Lecture Reflection

Color Lecture Reflection

The color lecture was really helpful in understanding relationships between colors and what strategies

advertisers use. I also learned that hue is the family name of a color, value is the lightness or darkness of

a color, and chroma is the purity of a color, ranging from strong chroma-right out of the tube-to weak

chroma that looks very gray. Color unity is used by artists and designers to help make an idea clearer.

This color unity can have a negative impact, if not used right, and cause a lack of focus. The examples

of good and bad color usage also really enabled me to comprehend the use of color within design.

There are also primary and secondary colors. I really found it interesting that Isaac Newton published a

color wheel in one of his books. Another thing I found interesting is all the strategies used by artists to

portray color and meaning together. The best example was the two different m&m bags. Both bags had

the same layout, but the colors made one interesting and the other a terrible mess. The color lecture

really opened my mind to color and the picture project aided in solidifying the information.
